💻 Getting back to our roots, the reason we started Little Active People, has definitely been at the forefront of our minds in the last couple of weeks, especially having had all 4 children home from school isolating again.

👵 When we first got chatting about wanting to run our own business, we realised we were probably part of the last generation to have grown up without constant access to screens.

🤸 We chatted amongst ourselves or as a family during mealtimes (at home or out), we only had 5 channels and children's programmes were only on during certain hours, the rest of the time we were either in the garden, playing with our siblings, meeting friends or reading books.

🛍️ We wanted to collate some of the amazing small businesses we had discovered, who have created & developed stunning products to keep little ones busy, creative, mindful and having fun and so Little Active People was born!

😜 Please don't think we are anti screens, we absolutely believe there is a time and place for them (like supporting your favourite team, watching the world through the eyes of David Attenborough!!!) but there is more to screens than mindlessly sitting in front of one for 'something to do' for a prolonged period of time.

🤳 They have been vital in what has been a tough 18 months, for keeping in contact with family & friends & for homeschooling, for shopping, for a 20 minute downtime etc but we want to try & help balance that out with fun.

🥳 We have now, just launched our courses to help support parents, from first aid to nutrition to mindfulness and would love to hear from you with ideas for additional courses going forward.

😬 Running a small business over the last 18 months whilst home schooling, looking after a baby, managing pandemic emotions has been hard work, as it has for everyone, but thanks to our lovely customers and followers, it keeps us smiling and striving for more so thank you!!

😍 And this is me.... Jemma, with my crazies, Samuel, 8, Poppy, 5 (she'd kill me if I didn't say soon to be 6!!!) & mental Max, 17 months!

I am St Albans born and bred, Gill takes the mick out of me for being posh, I don't think I am! I am incredibly lucky to have so much of my family living in St Albans & surrounding areas, although I have realised I have turned into my Mum, you know when you have to go out somewhere and she ALWAYS bumps into someone she knows!!!!! My husband, David, grew up in Wales and moved to St Albans in 2018, we then met 3 months later, and the rest, as they say, is history.

My background is hospitality and retail, I LOVE talking to people, finding out about what they want/need and hopefully pointing them in the right direction. When we were part of the local @villagepopup shop in May, I couldn't wait to be working in there and finally be able to talk to customers and friends.

The photo was taken in Torquay during the last half term break! We had arrived approximately 15 mins before and the kids just ran onto the beach and were soaking wet and covered in sand in no time! It was bliss!!!

Where Gill is the traveller, I like to find activities for us to do, from @fit4ocr obstacle courses to @parkrunuk junior, we like to give things a try.

😎 A little more about us.... This is Gill & her girls, Amy, 9 & Ember, 6. Gill is from Halifax, Yorkshire, her family all still live in Yorkshire except her sister who lives in Wales.

Gill and the girls are always off travelling, whether it be to see family or visit other countries, she is always plotting weekends away and holidays! It has been super tough for her during the pandemic, not being able to see family and friends or have that time away.

Gill met her husband, Deniz whilst at University, they were together 7 years before they got married, having moved to St Albans. The first time I went to Gill's house, I had one of those 'small world' moments when I realised I knew Deniz from the rugby club.

Gill's background is retail & operational management, where she says she became a railway geek!! 😂 Gill is very methodical, she has a list for everything and will work through that list to get everything done! I am always getting in trouble with my 'brain dumps' completely throwing her off kilter!!

This photo was taken during lockdown last summer when our school ran a virtual summer festival and sold these sunglasses as part of the fun! The girls have such a beautiful relationship, they have their moments but have had some awesome adventures!

Please, can we please just get to the end of term, just let these total little superheroes finish another year of school in some sort of normality! Poppy & Ember move into year 2 in September & I'm not ready, that is where Samuel was before this pandemic began, how are the girls already there without having had a full year at school!?!

We haven't shown our faces for a little while and whilst these aren't the most elegant photos of us, they bring back fun memories. We've had a number of new followers recently, so we wanted to say HI!! We're Jemma & Gill (we try to stand in that order when you meet us & for photos, you know like Ant & Dec but we're the wrong way round in these photos!! 😂)

We were due to take the girls away for the night to stay in a tepee, to have a bit of time together as besties but also our undivided attention, we had planned a little shopping trip with them, fish & chips on the beach, afternoon tea.... but of course COVID got in the way and their year group were sent home to isolate 😩

We felt there was nothing else we could do but.... go without them!!! 😀 Does that make us mean?? We both took tests before we left but we felt, if we have to go back to home-schooling, then we needed a bit of R&R beforehand!

We had such a lovely weekend, totally chilled, came up with new business ideas, started writing our own webinar (watch this space), drank some beautiful cider made on site, discussed everything from home renovations to secondary school choices!

And we're so glad we did as Gill's 1 week turned into 2 as her eldest then got sent home and turns out, the images of keeping calm during home-schooling as 'it's only for a week' disappear as soon as you switch on the laptop.... BUT, we survived and we're back together again, plotting Septembers webinars, summer sales and crafting sessions!!! 🥳
